Do you ever have a morning when you’re just not “feeling” your quiet time? That’s where I’m at today. Sometimes it feels like there’s a barrier between me and God-like He can’t access me-as if I’m elusive to God. I get unfocused, look around the room, think about my lesson for the day, gaze at my stack of grading.
But, friend, even if we’re elusive and unfocused sometimes, God never is. He is there even when we set up our own mental walls. He can always access our thoughts, feelings, emotions, anxieties, frustrations. There is nothing we can do to dilute His presence. We can, however, choose to let Him in and connect with Him. The most important part of letting down your wall to let God in is honest communication. Tell God how you feel. Tell Him about the wall. Tell Him that you can’t focus. He understands because He is intimately acquainted with your mind and heart. He understands what’s going on far better than you do.
So take out a pen and paper or close your eyes or talk to Him out loud-whatever works for you. Tell Him about your heart today. Be honest-there’s nowhere to hide anyways and vulnerability will bring you into closer communion with Him. God loves you so much that He seeks to connect with you at all times, even on an “off” day. He’s not angry with you. He’s not disappointed in you. He wants to draw closer to you. He loves all parts of you. So share all parts of yourself with Him today. He’s waiting.
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” –Romans 5:8
But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” –Psalm 86:15
